Meningococcal Disease & Vaccination

Meningococcal disease is a rare but serious bacterial infection of the blood and / or brain. Anyone can get meningococcal disease but it is most common in infants less than one year of age and people 15 – 19 years. Meningococcal disease can start with symptoms similar to a cold or flu (fever, runny nose, sore throat, feeling tired). This makes it very hard to diagnose early. The Bexsero vaccination is expected to provide protection against approproximately three quarters of all Men B strains in Australia. Kapunda and Eudunda Medical Practice doctors can prescribe the vaccine for you. Please make an appointment to see a doctor for a script or discuss further with a practice nurse.
